Alleged drunk driver reportedly tried to flee after slamming into Yarmouth Port utility pole…
YARMOUTH PORT, MASSACHUSETTS – Shortly before midnight last evening, Yarmouth Police patrol officers began responding to Center Street after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash. Responding officers were advised of a second vehicle at the crash scene attempting to pick up the operator of the vehicle which had just crashed. The driver reportedly appeared to be intoxicated and attempting to leave the scene. A Massachusetts State Trooper arrived on scene first, finding an abandoned black Ford Taurus on Center Street near the intersection with Homers Dock Road.
Moments later, Yarmouth Police received a third 911 call advising that the vehicle which may have picked up the driver was now circling nearby Ellis Circle, off Center Street. The vehicle circling was described a white Subaru Crosstrek.
As you will hear in the following HN Video, while looking for the Subaru, officers encountered the alleged male driver on Center Street, a short distance from the crash scene. Officers, however, were still concerned about the Subaru which had just left the area. The driver’s girlfriend was said to now be a passenger in the Subaru, with the female driver possibly operating while intoxicated.
When HN arrived on Center Street, Yarmouth officers appeared to be administering a portable Breathalyzer test to the alleged male driver of the crashed Ford Taurus. Officers then arrested the alleged male driver on the suspicion he was operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. No further details were available at the time of this report. The following Hyannis News “video” contains still photographs, along with Yarmouth Police radio soundbites.
