Initial HN coverage:
WEST YARMOUTH – DEVELOPING – According to YPD radio traffic, at about 4:51PM, a male who had been seen hanging around Timmy’s Roast Beef suddenly entered the sandwich shop with a white t-shirt covering his face, showed a knife, and demanded money. He then fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, heading west towards Hyannis…
A female then called police stating she was just robbed.
Multiple Yarmouth Police squad cars converged on the general area looking for a white male, about 5’9” or taller, medium build, in his mid-20s to early 30 years of age, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and backpack.
When the robber entered, he was wearing his hood and had the rest of his face covered with the white t-shirt, witness(es) could only see his eyes.
A crime scene investigator arrived to gather evidence and assist in reviewing security video.
A Barnstable Police K-9 Unit immediately responded and hit the ground tracking. It sounded as if they had a promising track going as they searched yards in the area.
State troopers also responded and helped with the search.
The following video highlights the scene moments after police arrived. It shows police initiating the K-9 track and speaking with a possible suspect in a nearby parking lot. After speaking with the man, police were satisfied he was not the one they were looking for.
The suspect remains at large.
Officers were working leads at the time of this report, and official police sources were reluctant to comment further. HN will provide updates as they become available.
