UPDATED: Mashpee ambulance with patient on board involved in multiple vehicle crash… six patients transported to area hospitals… [HN VIDEO]
UPDATE FROM THE BPD: According to a media statement from the Barnstable Police Department, the Mashpee ambulance was transporting a patient to Cape Cod Hospital using its lights and siren while traveling along Route 28 eastbound. A vehicle pulled out of East Osterville Road in an attempt to make a left turn eastbound onto Route 28, striking the front left side of the ambulance. The ambulance then struck three other vehicles before coming to a stop. A total of six individuals were transported by COMM FD, three to Cape Cod Hospital and three to Falmouth Hospital.
The ambulance, along with four cars and a landscaping trailer, were towed from the scene. Photographs were taken by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.
The operator of the vehicle that struck the ambulance was issued a citation for failure to use care in starting. The accident is under investigation by Sgt. Andrew McKenna and Officer John York Jr..

UPDATE – COMM FD Media Statement:
COMM FD received a call from the Barnstable Police Department for a motor vehicle crash involving an ambulance. Car 321, Engine 305, Ambulance 325, and Ambulance 236 responded to the scene. Car 321 arrived on location to find 5 vehicles involved including the ambulance. Car 323 and Car 301 responded to the scene. An additional ambulance from COMM was requested and a mutual aid ambulance was requested to the scene. Six patients were transported. Three to Cape Cod Hospital and the other three to Falmouth Hospital. There was minor to moderate damage to the 5 vehicles and moderate front end damage to the ambulance. Crash is being investigated by the Barnstable Police Department.

INITIAL HN REPORT:
[OSTERVILLE] – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, the crash happened about 10:00 a.m. on Route 28 in Centerville near the Osterville line. It was a multiple vehicle crash involving a Mashpee ambulance with a on board. The patient was immediately transported to the hospital by another ambulance….
Multiple patients were taken to CCH with unknown injuries. All firefighters onboard the ambulance were also taken to the hospital to be checked out.
Route 28 needed to be completely shut down between Lumbert Mill Road and Osterville/West Barnstable Road for about an hour or so. COMM FD will be putting out a press released with more updated details asap.
