Initial HN report:
CHATHAM – [DEVELOPING – the following details are subject to updates and clarifications…]
It was a wild night for police in Chatham and surrounding towns after a man in his mid-twenties allegedly took off from a domestic incident at a high rate of speed in stolen blue Mercury Grand Marquis.
A Chatham officer radioed ahead to Orleans, Brewster, and Harwich officers as the speeding vehicle headed north.
A short while later, Orleans Police discovered the stolen Mercury crashed off the roadway on Shoal Lane in their town. A K-9 unit was called in from the Barnstable Sheriff’s Department to help search the area for the suspect.
Then in a bizarre twist, at about 12:39AM, a Chatham Patrolman discovered a Toyota SUV rolled over into the rising tide waters at Jackknife Cove in Chatham. After a brief investigation, officers learned the Toyota may have just been carjacked at knife point by the same suspect they were looking for earlier…
The above details have not yet been officially confirmed and are from radio transmissions and other sources. The investigation into the one-man rampage is still very active and ongoing… and details are subject to being updated and clarified, likely in some type of press statement later in the morning…
The suspect is still at large…
The following HN Video highlights the bizarre crime scene at Jackknife Cove Beach, were investigators were able to wrap things up before the upside-down vehicle was completely swallowed up by the rising tide waters… there is even a point in the footage where a live fish falls out of the demolished wreck.
