Above photo: Barnstable Patrolmen rendered immediate first aid to the suspect charged with failing to stop for them…
HYANNIS – HN was in the area when a patrolman announced he was trying to stop a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on Winter Street towards Barnstable Road…
Moments later HN observed that the suspect had just apparently crashed his motorcycle in the entrance to the Staples parking lot on Barnstable Road.
A dashcam was rolling as HN approached the crash scene to assist the injured motorcyclist.
Barnstable Police arrived moments after and immediately began rendering first aid to the injured suspect who had allegedly just failed to stop for them.
Officers were not happy with the motorcyclist, stating he could have killed someone as he allegedly sped through the busy downtown area, where there were numbers of tourists and other pedestrians near to and crossing the roadways.
Police officers quickly switched gears and showed concern for the injured suspect as they bandaged his right forearm and carefully evaluated his right shoulder. The suspect was in a lot of pain and it appeared as though he may have broken or severely damaged his collarbone and shoulder.
Hyannis Rescue arrived and the suspect was able to walk into a nearby ambulance. He then placed himself on a stretcher and was transported to CCH where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Abe Sawyer, age 37, of Yarmouth Port, is being charged with Operating to Endanger, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, and Unlicensed Operation, all criminal complaints. Sawyer will also be cited for Failure to Display a License Plate.
Sawyer will be arraigned at Barstable District Court on the aforementioned criminal complaints…
NOTE: Video footage on HN is edited in long form, with similar shots from different angles and ranges. This is done because it’s not unusual for other news agencies to incorporate HN footage into their broadcasts. The goal is to give them as many options as possible… HN usually chooses to show its readers all of the shots, giving you the most complete view of the scene. (We also do this because we like you… 😉 )
The following video begins with HN dashcam footage and then switches to a HD camera… WARNING: Video contains strong language…
