DENNIS – [DEVELOPING] – A man is under arrest after allegedly fleeing a rollover crash carrying a safe, sources say…
At about 9:00 p.m. this evening, police and firefighters responded to Route 134 at the entrance to the Cape Cod Rail Trail parking lot for reports of a truck on its roof. The crash snapped utility poles, bringing down live power lines and causing outages in the area.
When HN arrived, a man was in handcuffs being checked out by EMTs outside of the Cumberland Farms on Route 134, about two blocks from the scene. The man did not need to be transported and was then given several field sobriety tests, which he reportedly passed.
According to a source on scene, the man had outstanding arrest warrants and had just fled the rollover crash carrying a safe which may have been from his place of employment. Sources say the fleeing driver was initially stopped and detained outside Cumberland Farms by a Dennis Police Sergeant…

On Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at approximately 8:58 pm the Dennis Police Department received reports via 911 of a motor vehicle crash into a utility pole with possible injury at the entrance to the Cape Cod Rail Trail on Route 134 in South Dennis. The first officer to arrive confirmed that a truck had struck and damaged a utility pole, and the operator of the vehicle had been seen leaving the scene on foot north towards the Cumberland Farms store at 460 Route 134.
The vehicle operator, a 43-year-old man from Middleboro, MA, was located behind the Cumberland Farms store where he was taken into custody for three outstanding arrest warrants. The crash investigation showed that the vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet truck, was traveling north on Route 134 when it left the right side of the roadway, struck a utility pole and then rolled over onto its roof. Based on the results of the investigation at the scene the vehicle operator is additionally being charged with:
Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, Speeding, Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stay within Marked Lanes, [and] Resisting Arrest.
The suspect was processed and held overnight at the Dennis Police Department and is scheduled to be arraigned today in the Orleans District Court.
The work to repair the utility pole went on overnight and is continuing this morning with traffic being detoured off of Route 134 between Upper County Road and Theophilus F Smith Road.
UPDATE: According to Lt. Benson of the Dennis Police, the safe turned out to be owned by the suspect…
