UPDATE: Fatal Late-Night Single-Vehicle Crash on Route 6 in West Barnstable [HN Video]

UPDATE FROM THE STATE POLICE – 1/10/26 @ 10:15 AM:
On Friday January 9th at approximately 10:25PM, Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on Rt 6 westbound at the [65 mile marker] in Barnstable. Upon their arrival, Troopers advised the occupant was trapped inside the vehicle. EMS responded to the scene and pronounced the occupant as deceased. The crash is still under investigation by State Police CARS Unit and Crime Scene Services. The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending family notification. No further information is available at this time.
INITIAL HN REPORT:
WEST BARNSTABLE – A single-vehicle crash late Thursday evening left a driver unresponsive after a Toyota sedan veered off Route 6 westbound and overturned in the woods just before Exit 65.
Massachusetts State Police and firefighters responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m. on January 9, 2026. A trooper located the vehicle, which had apparently struck a tree and flipped over.
Rescue crews, assisted by tow truck operators, partially righted the sedan to gain access to the driver, who was found unresponsive inside. Firefighters then deployed the jaws of life in order to reach the individual.
The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (CARS) team arrived to conduct a detailed investigation. Emergency personnel and investigators remained on scene until after 2:00 a.m.

Barnstable Police Arrest 16-Year-Old Driving Stolen Toyota Camry [HN Photos]
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – As can be seen in the above HN photos, shortly after 10:00 p.m. last evening, a Barnstable Police patrolwoman attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in the area of Center Street. The vehicle was slow to pull over but eventually stopped near the intersection of Barnstable Road and Grove Street. Additional units responded, and the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
Sources report the vehicle, a Toyota Camry, had been stolen a day earlier from an elderly woman’s driveway in Hyannis.
The driver was a 16-year-old male, according to sources. He was transported to Barnstable Police Headquarters while the investigation continued.
A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s crime scene unit responded to process evidence.
A Barnstable Police patrolman contacted the vehicle’s owner, picked her up at her residence, and brought her to the scene to recover her car.
No further details were available at the time of this report.
