East End two-alarm apartment fire draws rapid response… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS – At about 7pm, Hyannis Firefighters rushed to a two-alarm apartment building fire at 135 Main Street for heavy flames in one of the upstairs rooms.
Barnstable Police shut down Main Street as well as Lewis Bay Road, as fire equipment arrived and set up hoses.
Initial Hyannis Firefighters on scene were able to knock down the flames. They then began sawing and ventilating the roof.
Firefighters from Yarmouth also responded.
Everyone reportedly got out of the building safely and there were no reported injuries.
The Red Cross is on scene assisting the displaced residents by providing temporary housing.
The fire took place approximately one block from Cape Cod Hospital, and traffic to and from the area had to be redirected around the scene.
The rapid response of local firefighters prevented this major blaze from causing significantly more damage than it did.
