Yesterday, at about 5:00PM, Barnstable Police were called to assist a Sears loss prevention agent following a pregnant shoplifter walking toward the Christmas Tree Shopping Plaza.
Officers quickly caught up to the expecting parent and began searching her bags. Police discovered she had stolen merchandise from both Sears and Kmart.
When asked, the woman told police she didn’t have any money. But according to sources, the woman is no stranger to police and the criminal justice system…
The woman reportedly told police she was eight months pregnant.
The unnamed female is being charged with felony “Larceny Over” for what she allegedly stole from Sears, and she is being charged for straight Larceny for what she allegedly stole from Kmart.

HYANNIS – A driver who hit a young female bicyclist, reportedly gave her a fake name and phone number before leaving the scene of an accident where someone was injured…
Yesterday, at about 5:50PM, Barnstable Police and Hyannis Rescue responded to Route 132 in the area of Whole Foods Market after a car crashed into a bicycle. The driver was reportedly at fault because he allegedly made an illegal turn by crossing solid double yellow lines…
When police and rescue arrived, they found the injured young bicyclist with a big lump on her head… but the vehicle and driver were nowhere to be seen. Instead police were handed a piece of paper with a phone number and name scribbled on it.
After a brief investigation, police learned the phone number and name were fakes…
But luckily, a friend of the bicyclist took a cell phone photo of the driver’s license plate.
Patrolman Troy Perry, the investigating officer, contacted the Dennis Police Department and they sent an officer to speak with the driver who reportedly resides in their town.
After a brief investigation, DPD officers also learned the driver had given the injured bicyclist false information and they advised him to go to BPD Headquarters to speak with Officer Perry.
At about 8:30PM, the driver met with Officer Perry. Because this was the driver’s third time leaving the scene of an accident, one previous time with property damage, the other previous time also with personal injury, Officer Perry decided to begin the process for immediate suspension of the man’s driving license.
In the upcoming days, the driver will be contacted by the RMV, notifying him of the immediate suspension of his license. It will be up to the driver to explain why the Commonwealth should continue to allow him to operate a motor vehicle on its roadways.
As for the injured bicyclist, she reportedly had a nasty bump on her head and first responders and friends urged her to go to CCH to be looked at. The young woman is from Brazil and had only emerging English skills at best. She decided she didn’t want to go to CCH…
Friends, however, reportedly said they would be keeping a close eye on her for the remainder of the evening…
