GO GREEN WITH GOLF CARTS: HyPort’s transportation solution for people of all ages…
Top photo: Styling in HyPort… but will golf carts catch on in the downtown Hyannis area?
HYANNISPORT – A few months ago, a friend from HyPort advised HN to come down to witness the children and adults of all ages using their own innovative form of public transportation.
Well, early yesterday HN did just that, and what I saw was simply amazing and brilliant. It seems the people of Hyannisport have solved a problem most of us have been struggling with for some time now. We ask ourselves, “what is the most affordable way to get around town?” Well, the people of HyPort may have found a solution…
For quite some time now, many of the children and adults in that part of town have been using affordable golf cart transportation for commuting amongst the busy historic streets of their beautiful “kid friendly” village. The vehicles range from the standard electric engine country club golf carts, to gas powered models with much higher horsepower. One actually appeared to be registered for the roads in California. Even had seatbelts… Whatta sweet ride!
(Of course, I’d probably have to paint a gopher on the front on mine to suit my own personal sense of style, fashion, and good taste… But the cart in the above photo was definitely sweet nonetheless, and appeared to have some much needed giddy-up! Basically more than enough to leave a pesky downtown pedicab in the dust. As an aside, have you ever noticed the people of HyPort seem to have fewer tattoos? I don’t know what that means, just an observation… “different strokes” I guess… it actually took some getting used to. But once I overcame my fears and adjusted to the culture shock, I managed to get some decent footage of these brilliant trend setters.)
Besides being an affordable “green” way to get around, it also looked like the minor children were having the time of their lives!
I was sold from the get-go…
But before running out and buying a golf cart rig of my very own, HN needs to find the answers to three very important questions:
1. Is it legal to drive these golf carts on public roadways?
2. Is it a “Green” alternative to motor vehicles for traveling around town… and by green I mean energy efficient.
And 3. Where can HyTown’s general population run out and purchase one of these puppies? I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to bombing around downtown Hyannis in my very own souped up “Caddy Shack Special” the first chance I get… I’m talkin’ within the next week or so! (Look out pedicabs, here I come!)
Think about the fresh air and all the money we’ll save!
Thank you Hyannisport! Your Barnstable comrades from the other side of the causeway love you! 🙂
The following video footage highlights what I observed in my brief, but very enlightening, visit to HyPort. (If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it. It’s like visiting an entirely different world! There are no public drinking establishments nor homeless shelters, so you’ll have to plan ahead and come prepared…)
All of the following footage was filmed on public roadways… (But beware, some of the folks down there are crafty tricksters, and there are some signs from the old days that are not official and basically mean-spirited if you ask me, pointing the public in the wrong direction and that sort of thing… C’mon, grow up people. Those are mostly public roads down there and you know it… So, don’t be hoggin’. But all-in-all, most of the people are generally very congenial and if you listen carefully you can get past some of the funny accents you’ll encounter here and there.)
[Press play… Select HD in the settings and enlarge the player for best quality. Most of the footage is from a dash cam, so quality may vary…]
HN will provide updates to this story as they become available. HN will also provide the contact information for reliable golf cart venders should Hyannisport’s “green” transportation solution be a legitimate one. Stay tuned!
😉

Robert Bastille,
P.S. – Today’s HyTown Vignette is brought to you by Jim Croce… [This could be HyTown’s anthem… so please all rise, stand at attention facing the village green, and crank it!]
