BREAKING HN VIDEO: Single car crashes and bursts into flames… driver ejected and burned… rushed to airport in Harwich ambulance… then airlifted to off-Cape trauma center…
HARWICH – [DEVELOPING] – At around 1:30 a.m., this morning, firefighters and police began rushing toward what was initially reported as a “house fire” in Dennis, at the intersection of Center St. and Depot St…
… but first responders on scene learned instead that it was a single car crash into some trees, and that it wasn’t in Dennis, it was actually just over the nearby town line in Harwich.
First responders then announced that the driver had been ejected and that the wreckage was currently a fully involved car fire.
HN arrived as firefighters were still battling the flames, the footage picks up just after the flames were knocked down, leaving thick smoke, with the driver a short distance away being attended to by rescue workers.
The footage then shows the patient being lifted into the back of a Harwich Ambulance before being rushed to Hyannis to meet an awaiting Medflight helicopter at Barnstable Municipal airport. According to radio transmissions, the driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was suffering serious burns, and likely other trauma from the crash…
The patient was then airlifted to an off-Cape trauma center…
An accident reconstruction expert was called to the crash scene to investigate. The crash is being investigated by the Harwich Police Department. No further information was available at the time of this report. HN will provide official updates as they become available. [DEVELOPING]
