*** WATCH *** FIREFIGHTERS SAVE HOME IN HARWICH…
HARWICH – The first firefighters on scene found heavy fire climbing the back exterior wall of the residence.
At around 1:27 a.m. this morning, crews from Harwich and surrounding towns began arriving at a structure fire on Uncle Venies Road. (The fire companies mentioned were from the Chatham, Brewster, and Dennis Fire Departments, according to radio traffic…)
Command quickly directed an exterior attack, successfully knocking down the flames on the backside of the home.
Concerned about possible extension, command directed a line through the front door of the residence. Firefighters checked the attic and tore into ceiling sheet rock looking for hot spots.
Upon confirming no extension, mutual aid crews began returning to quarters. The fire was successfully knocked down and most of the home was apparently spared from damage.
A quick, organized response and the ability to immediately get water on the heavy exterior flames is credited for what ended up being a good save.
The were no reported injuries to either the residents or firefighters, according to radio transmissions.
The Harwich Fire Department is investigating the cause and HN will provide official updates as they become available…
