CENTERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS – In a wild takedown captured in gripping HN audio from Barnstable Police and a Massachusetts State Police helicopter’s radio transmissions, numerous officers and detectives flooded a quiet neighborhood after a woman reported a man had just threatened to shoot and murder her with a firearm, according to radio transmissions and sources. [DEVELOPING]
Sources described the chilling incident as domestic in nature. The suspect, reportedly armed and disturbed, allegedly made the death threats before bolting from a home on Hillside Drive in a gray Jeep.
Barnstable cops and state troopers descended on the area, locking down streets as a Massachusetts State Police helicopter made its way to the scene, eventually hovering overhead, and scouring the terrain from Craigville Beach to West Hyannisport.
A Barnstable Police detective radioed that the suspect might be on foot or holed up near Craigville Pizza. Patrol units swiftly encircled the popular pizza joint, ready for a potential standoff should the suspect be inside.
The fugitive wasn’t very far. Moments later, officers took him down on Craigville Beach Road at the intersection with Second Avenue. He was arrested without further incident and hauled to Barnstable Police Headquarters, facing serious felony charges tied to the alleged firearm threats.
Hyannis News is actively working on gathering additional information and will hopefully have more details later this evening, which will be published here. The following HN “video” contains some of the dramatic audio from today’s ordeal…
UPDATE – 10/29/25 @ 9PM: According to sources and documents filed in Barnstable District Court, the suspect identified as Joseph Nardone, of Centerville, was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (To Wit Firearm), Threat to Commit a Crime, Assault on a Family Member, and Witness Intimidation (trying to prevent victim from calling police).
Earlier this afternoon, Nardone was booked at Barnstable Police Headquarters and transported to Barnstable District Court, where he was arraigned on the above charges.
According to a report filed by Patrolman Peter Ginnetty of the Barnstable Police Department, he was dispatched to an address on Hillside Drive this morning for a report of a domestic assault and battery where a firearm was displayed. Responding officers learned that the suspect (Nardone) had fled in a gray Jeep Cherokee.
Patrolman Ginnetty spoke with the alleged victim who stated she had been married to Nardone for over 20 years. The victim reported that Nardone had allegedly been depressed for a long time… and that he had not been consistently employed since the summer. The victim also reported that Nardone allegedly struggled with all-night alcohol consumption and gambling online… and that there had been ongoing tensions about Nardone reportedly running out of money. In short, the victim reported Nardone’s alleged deterioration was due to alcohol consumption and money issues… and that his behavior had allegedly become more and more aggressive and volatile.
At some point during this morning’s disturbance at the residence on Hillside Drive, Nardone is accused of confronting his wife about money they allegedly held in a shared bank account. (Money which had allegedly been recently transferred to a separate account…) An argument reportedly escalated where Nardone allegedly said the marriage was over and he was leaving. When the victim reportedly refused to give him money he believed belonged to him, things escalated further… Patrolman Ginnetty’s report continues as follows:
“He attempted to grab the phone from her while she was in the process of transferring some of the money to him, but Joseph was demanding all of it. Then he pulled out his firearm (a black Smith and Wesson pistol) and pointed it at her and said, ‘give me the money or you get one of these. Either one of these is going into your head or into mine.’ [The victim] was terrified at that second, and started to pull away. She said she was calling the police, but he attempted to stop her by grabbing her arm. She heard him saying, don’t call, I was just kidding. [The victim] pulled away and was able to successfully call the police. Joseph fled the scene.”
As initially reported by HN, Joseph Nardone was eventually tracked down and arrested while on foot on Craigville Beach Road in West Hyannisport.
HN REMINDER: The details contained in the above report are based on police radio transmissions, information from sources, along with information from documents filed in Barnstable District Court. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
