HYANNIS – A man was arrested after being accused of chasing a woman around while wielding a hatchet early this morning – in the downtown area – according to police sources.

Barnstable Police responded to a gas station on North Street for a woman reporting she had just been assaulted by a man who is known to her.

Officers quickly caught up to the suspect at a homeless camp behind the old armory on South Street.

The suspect adamantly denied assaulting the woman. But accused with a serious felony, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, he was transported back to BPD headquarters and booked.
