DRAMATIC PURSUIT: Listen as police run down and capture domestic violence suspect who reportedly fled scene with victim still in the car! [HN VIDEO]
HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at about 7:30 p.m., Barnstable Police responded to the Cromwell Court Apartments on Barnstable Road for a report of a woman screaming.
Unofficial sources who reportedly witnessed the violence, tell HN they saw a large man punching a woman with a closed fist while inside of a vehicle parked outside of the apartments. The violence was allegedly in plain view of children and other neighbors…
Witnesses called police and the vehicle reportedly fled right as patrol officers were arriving on scene.
As you will hear, a patrolman engaged the vehicle in a pursuit, eventually losing sight of it in the area of the West End Rotary. You will also hear a police lieutenant closely monitoring the pursuit, concerned about public and officer safety, but also concerned the victim was still inside the fleeing vehicle. The fleeing suspect vehicle reportedly reached estimated speeds of 65 to 70 miles per hour in the thickly populated area of West Main Street. At one point a patrolman announced the suspect was running other vehicles off the road.
Officers managed to get a plate number and tracked down the vehicle to where it had finally stopped, right in front of 11 Carlotta Ave, the address of the registered owner.
Almost immediately, the radio erupted with a patrolman announcing the suspect had jumped a fence, leading officers on a foot pursuit.
HN arrived moments after officers ran down and arrested the suspect in a yard on Old Craigville Road. The suspect was then transported back to BPD Headquarters for booking.
Officers then focused on the badly battered victim, who needed to be transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
While fleeing, the suspect vehicle allegedly crashed into at least one other vehicle, and the Barnstable Police are investigating that accident as a “hit and run…”
A member of the Barnstable Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit arrived to photograph evidence at 11 Carlotta Ave, as well as blood evidence back at the Cromwell Court crime scene.
The victim’s condition is unknown at the time of this report… and HN will provide official updates, including suspect information and charges, as soon as they become available.
