HYANNIS – A mother was simply waiting at her daughter’s school bus stop at about 3:00 P.M. yesterday afternoon when all hell broke out across the street.
As you can see in the above HN Reader Images, a male and female were fighting with Barnstable Police Officers during a traffic stop.
According to one witness, at one point the male suspect was pulling the motorcycle cop by his helmet.
It was a volatile situation which happened in front of a number of bystanders, including at least one very young child (see photos).
According to a Barnstable Police media statement, at 3:00 P.M., on Monday, September 23, Motorcycle Patrol Officer Matthew Lounsbury stopped a blue 2012 Chevrolet Traverse on Route 28 at the intersection of Buckwood Drive. The stop was for a civil motor vehicle infraction.
The operator, identified as Lester J. Foye, age 49, of Hyannis, allegedly became argumentative with Officer Lounsbury.
Officer Christopher Kelsey arrived to provide back up shortly after the initial stop.
Minutes later, a second vehicle driven by a one of Foye’s family members arrived at the traffic stop and “began to interfere with police procedures,” according to the media statement.
The second individual was identified as Kaitlyn M. Foye, age 26, of West Barnstable.
The BPD media statement continues: “Both Lester and Kaitlyn Foye refused to comply with the officers directions and created an unsafe and volatile situation. The motor vehicle stop concluded with the arrests of Lester Foye and Kaitlyn Foye who were transported to the Barnstable Police Station. Lester Foye was booked on charges of Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and Impeded Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Kaitlyn Foye was booked on charges of Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest. Both were held at the Barnstable Police Station pending bail and/or an appearance in Barnstable District Court on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.”
