Officers deploy taser to arrest non-compliant suspect… [HN Cell Phone Video]
HYANNIS – A Barnstable Police patrolwoman was simply buying lunch inside the Aegean Pizza shop, when management approached her about a man leaning against the store’s window, worried that he might break the glass, police sources say.
When the officer encountered the man to tell him to stop, things reportedly escalated.
As you will see in the following cell phone video, HN was off duty and nearby, arriving right after a patrolman asked for more officers to respond. The man was being belligerent, swearing and raising his voice at the officers. Officers went to place him under arrest for Disorderly Conduct when he would not comply with their commands. Officers then ordered him to get on the ground and he responded by telling them they were going to have to “make [him] get on the ground.” The officers then deployed a Taser and brought the suspect to the ground.
At one point in the video you’ll hear an officer let other officers know the suspect had a knife on his person. During a prolonged struggle to cuff the suspect, a knife was tossed away from the man and eventually secured.
As soon as the suspect was safely secured, officers instantly deescalated their demeanor and actions, and began to focus on whether the suspect needed medical attention.
As you will see in the video, the suspect was eventually transported to CCH to be treated for what appeared to be minor injuries. After a brief hospital visit, the suspect was transported directly to BPD Headquarters for booking.
