HYANNIS – Barnstable Police are investigating what caused a Mazda to suddenly leave the roadway and land sideways between a utility pole and parked Cape Cod Nutrician Corner van early this morning.

As you will see in the following HN Video, the driver, a young man named Luis, was unharmed and able to self-extricate from the wreckage. Speaking with HN, he claimed that there was suddenly a problem with his steering before leaving the roadway.

The driver reportedly had insurance for his vehicle and the damage it caused to a parked Cape Cod Nutrition Corner van, but he did not have a valid United States drivers license and was subsequently issued a criminal citation for operating without a license….

A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit took photos and assisted at the scene.

The owner of Cape Cod Nutrition Corner was called at home and told about the crash into his parked business van. He then responded to the scene with van keys so it could be moved out of the way, allowing tow truck operators to safely remove the sideways Mazda.
