UPDATED: Detective starts doing CPR on man overdosing on side of the road… HN nearby and able to assist with compressions… rescue arrives, young man eventually comes around! [HN SLIDESHOW]
CORRECTION: The detective who saved this young man’s life just contacted HN and explained that he was in fact able to administer some Narcan he had in his car. Everything happened so fast and I thought I heard him say he didn’t have his medical bag, which I took to mean “no Narcan (as initially reported),” when I went to close his car door… but the bottom line is that this young man would probably not be alive right now if the detective didn’t come along at the right moment.
HYANNIS – As you will hear in the following HN slideshow, a Barnstable Police Detective happened across an unconscious male overdosing on the side of Baxter Road. There was also a friend of the male there trying to revive him. The detective immediately alerted dispatch and jumped out to start CPR.
HN was around the corner and arrived shortly after the detective’s radio transmission. The detective was down next to the overdosing male doing CPR. HN was able to assist with chest compressions for a period of time until rescue could arrive on scene.
The male that had been trying to revive his friend was very upset, telling HN he had just recently lost a close family member to an overdose and that he didn’t want to lose his friend now…
… it didn’t look good.
Hyannis Rescue arrived and there were some tense moments waiting for the Narcan to take hold.
The stricken male finally came to and began vomiting… it wasn’t pretty, but certainly much better than the alternative.
Thanks to an alert detective and the quick actions of first responders, the young male came back to life and gets another chance to battle his addiction.
