Pedestrian found in roadway suffering from head injury after struck by pickup truck… first responders contend with strong language barrier on scene and at hospital… [HN VIDEO]
HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – The manager of the Bamboo Restaurant ran over to help first responders translate after a man was found down in the roadway suffering from a head injury earlier this evening.
At about 9:30 p.m., police and firefighters rushed to the intersection of Route 28 and Bearse Road after a male pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck.
Traffic on Route 28 needed to be completely shut down from the Airport Rotary to Hinckley Road for a period of time as officials worked and investigated the scene.
The male patient was conscious and suffering lacerations to the head. There was a language barrier (possibly Mandarin) which made communication difficult between the patient, a witness, and first responders. The manager of the Bamboo Restaurant arrived to help with attempts at translating.
The driver of the pickup truck remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
As you will see in the following HN Video, accident debris in the roadway was made up of the victim’s personal belongings and a cup of Chinese noodles that had been scattered throughout the scene upon impact.
Barnstable Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
