*** WATCH *** MAIN STREET MUGGING: Senior male attacked and robbed by gun wielding suspect…
HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – The Main Street East End lit up with a cacophony of police activity at about 3:00 p.m. today after reports of a man being chased by another man with a firearm.
As you will see in the following HN Video, a senior male reportedly had his wallet stolen… reportedly the victim of an armed robbery, according to radio transmissions. The robbery victim was not seriously hurt but did appear to be roughed up a bit. The “firearm,” which turned out to be a BB gun, was discarded onto the nearby sidewalk during the robbery.
A Barnstable Police K9 Unit arrived quickly and immediately began tracking in a southerly direction toward several family neighborhoods in the vicinity.
The investigation remains very active and ongoing. HN filmed one individual being confronted and eventually taken back to BPD Headquarters… but it’s uncertain if he was the actual suspect. HN will release that footage at a later time should he turn out be involved in some way.
The following HN Video shows the active crime scene shortly after the robbery is alleged to have occurred. It contains actual police radio communications. No further information is available at the time of this report. The Barnstable Police Department is in charge of the investigation.

OFFICIAL BARNSTABLE POLICE DEPARTMENT MEDIA STATEMENT (Monday, 12/14/20):
On Sunday December 13th, 2020 at approximately 3:00 p.m. Barnstable Police Officers were dispatched to the area of School Street and Main Street in Hyannis for reports of a male chasing another male down the street with a gun. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the male with the gun was the victim of a robbery and an assault. The victim, a Hyannis resident, informed officers that he walked to the store to get food and was then assaulted on School Street as he returned to his apartment. The victim stated that a male suspect approached him from behind and struck him in the head with a gun. The victim informed officers that after a brief struggle the suspect ran away, but dropped the gun as he fled. The victim picked up the gun and chased the suspect towards Main Street, but was not able to catch up to the attacker. The gun was turned over to police by the victim, and it was determined that it was a replica BB gun that had been fashioned to look like a Glock handgun. A K-9 was called to the scene; however, the suspect was not located. The incident remains under investigation by Barnstable Detective Phelan. If you have any information relating to this incident, please call Barnstable Police Detectives at 508-775-0387.
