BIZARRE B&E ARREST: Man allegedly entered wrong house and started fixing a drink… [HN VIDEO]
HYANNIS – [HN NOTES] – The male suspect may have simply mistaken the victim’s house for a friend’s house, according to Sergeant Matthew Blondin of the Barnstable Police Department.
As you will see in the following HN Video – perhaps the most bizarre HN Video of the week I might add – shortly before midnight last evening, Barnstable Police squad cars rushed to an address on Old Craigville Road for a man who allegedly walked into a woman’s house, stole a coffee mug and then walked out, according to initial radio transmissions.
But when officers arrived at the residence, they learned the woman who called for help was down the street in her car, in sort of a slow-speed pursuit, as the suspect sort of ambled along the sidewalk in a southerly direction away from her home.
HN began rolling on video just as officers took over and quickly put an end to the slow-speed pursuit simply by getting out and having a word with the suspect. By all accounts, the suspect was cooperative and even congenial with officers…
… but there were two important issues at hand that needed to be addressed: 1. The 40-year-old male from Kingston was apparently out of his gourd, intoxicated on something. And 2. this congenial ambler from Kingston had somehow just ambled his way into someone else’s private home! and just before midnight no less! (Something we Hytonians, and I dare say “Cape Codders in general,” don’t particularly care for… we tend to call such uninvited unpleasantries messy little labels like “Breaking and Entering” – a very nasty, disagreeable label indeed… but alas, whether or not last evening’s incident is ultimately deserving of such a nasty label is yet to be seen… to be finally decided by our courts, with all their wisdom and whatnot… )
According to Sergeant Blondin, the gentleman intruder was brought back to police headquarters in protective custody, with officers initially thinking he was drunk. But after a breathalyzer registered zero, it was determined the suspect may have had something else onboard.
Hyannis Rescue responded to the booking area and began to evaluate the congenial ambler for the possibility of him being under the influence of drugs. And as it turned out, he was ultimately transported to Cape Cod Hospital for further unspecified care. It is suspected he was likely under the influence of either some sort of medication or illicit drug, but the bottom line is that at this point, the police really don’t know for certain what substance that would be. They only know he could not be held in protective custody for alcohol because of his zero score on the breath test.
HN later learned the male entered the home and began making a drink, believing it was his friend’s house, which was the story he was sticking to…
There seems to be some possible mitigating factors involved in last evening’s alleged Breaking and Entering…
… and as of the time of this report, the suspect is expected to be summoned to appear in Barnstable District Court for the alleged misdemeanor Breaking and Entering.
But what was really happening in the mind of last evening’s B&E suspect? Inquiring minds would like to know… but unfortunately, like the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know!
