HYANNIS – A male was arrested for allegedly striking someone with a baseball bat during some type of altercation early this morning.

As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at about 1:10 a.m., Barnstable Police units responded to the area of 55 Franklin Road for a report of two males with baseball bats attempting to fight a female and her boyfriend.

The first officers on scene let other officers know that a male had apparently been struck with a baseball bat. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit arrived to take photos of his injuries. The male who was struck did not require rescue and was not taken to the hospital, but officers now had probable cause for the arrest of the individual who had allegedly struck him.

Officers were searching for two males in the area, one was said to be wearing a red sweatshirt.

HN was on scene when a BPD police sergeant suddenly asked for backup. As you will see in the HN Video, two males were detained as officers drove by with the alleged victims who identified one of the males as being the one who had allegedly swung the bat.

According to Barnstable Police Sergeant Brian Jones, there had been an altercation between two groups of people. A male was taken into custody and charged with Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (a baseball bat). The male was also charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon for allegedly swinging the bat at another alleged victim and missing.

The investigation was still active and ongoing… and further details were unavailable at the time of this report.
