*** WATCH *** A few “knuckleheads” ruin otherwise orderly car meet at Kalmus Beach…
HYANNIS – [HN NOTES] – What started as an orderly meet involving a group of young car enthusiasts – some local, others from the Boston area – got busted up today when cops received a complaint about several cars racing and doing burnouts.
Officers arrived and observed a few ongoing motor vehicle violations which ruined the event for everyone else. There was no booze or drugs observed. The youths were polite and orderly according to witnesses. Several other beach visitors told HN the group wasn’t doing anything they considered to be wrong. A Barnstable Police Lieutenant arrived on scene and explained to those leaving, that a few “knuckleheads” ruined it for everyone else. The event had gone unnoticed up to the point of the phone complaint. The group was cooperative as police told them they had to go elsewhere.
It looked like clean, harmless fun… (and from what HN observed, it was…) but it was the reckless driving complaint and observed infractions that caused officers to take action in the interest of public safety.
It’s a law of nature, things are always ruined once people behaving like knuckleheads make their presence known.
