THREE AND A HALF MILES OF GROOVED PAVEMENT LEADS OFFICERS TO THEIR SUSPECT: “We’re looking for a Cadillac… it’s going to be missing a wheel…” [HN VIDEO]
HYANNIS – Shortly before 1:30 a.m., this morning, Barnstable Police responded to an OnStar emergency notification that an accident had just occurred in the area of Main Street and Sea Street. The first officers on scene found an entire wheel and front brake belonging to a Cadillac SUV. There was a damaged metal trash basket and a one way sign down on the sidewalk and in the roadway.
Additional officers responded and began searching the area for signs of the vehicle. Noticing a groove in the pavement, apparently from the remaining wheel assembly, officers began connecting the dots. They followed the pavement markings the remaining length of Main Street to the West End Rotary. From there they tracked their suspect vehicle down Scudder Ave, eventually covering most of Craigville Beach Road.
The suspect vehicle wasn’t hard for the first patrolman to spot. Three and a half miles of pavement markings led officers directly to what was now a three-wheeled Cadillac Escalade parked in the driveway of 1085 Craigville Beach Road. According to sources, the driver told officers he was visiting a relative who lived there. (Which may be true, as 1085 Craigville Beach Road is owned by a male with the same last name as the suspect in this case, according to Town of Barnstable records… but whether true or not, an investigation into a more serious matter was afoot.)
