*** LISTEN *** TRAUMA ONE: 22-YEAR-OLD STABBED IN STOMACH ON MAIN STREET, HYANNIS… TWO MALES IN CUSTODY…
HYANNIS – As you will hear in the following HN emergency radio recording, at around 12:37 a.m. – Monday, July 11, 2022 – Barnstable Police and Hyannis FD Rescue rushed to the area of 352 Main Street for a reported stabbing.
As you will hear in the following audio, a 22-year-old male was badly wounded, with a stab wound to the lower abdomen, which apparently caused evisceration. Hyannis FD Rescue immediately alerted Cape Cod Hospital of a stab wound patient being transported to the emergency room in “trauma one” condition.
Back at the scene, officers put out a description of two suspects and began searching the Main Street area toward the Hyannis West End. Bouncers at Torino’s bar assisted officers by alerting them about two males fitting the description. Both possible suspects were running along Main Street toward Winter Street. Police caught up to and briefly detained both individuals until a witness arrived and confirmed they were NOT the ones directly involved.
According to Lieutenant Joe Green of the Barnstable Police Department, officers learned the identities of two suspects after speaking with witnesses. Patrol officers then fanned out searching the area and eventually located the suspect’s vehicle parked in a nearby lot. Upon checking further, patrol officers located Maxwell Dean, age 18, and Dontae Lehtola, age 20, behind The Comfort Inn on Main Street, in the Hyannis East End.
According to police, their investigation revealed that Lehtola started a fight with a group of males on Main Street. Lehtola’s friend Maxwell Dean then allegedly produced a knife and plunged it into the stomach of one of the males, causing a significant puncture wound.
The stabbing victim was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. (At the time of this report, the 22-year-old male victim was expected to make a full recovery.)
Maxwell Dean was arraigned in Barnstable District Court yesterday – Monday, July 11, 2022 – for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife), and Assault & Battery causing Serious Bodily Injury. Dean is currently being held in custody pending a dangerousness hearing.
Dontae Lehtola was arrested and charged with allegedly being an Accessory After the Fact.
The aforementioned details and highlights are from various sources and are not believed to be all of the alleged details uncovered during the BPD’s investigation. The following HN “video” contains emergency call audio and BPD booking photos.
