THE LATEST REPORT: Stabbing victim said to be doing better, police say… [HN PHOTO]
HN PHOTO NOTES: Barnstable Police Canine Officer Nolan O’Melia (seen treating the patient) and fellow officers rushed to the scene and applied a chest seal to a deep, penetrating stab wound Saturday morning – 4/2/2022. Officer O’Melia, a 7+ year BPD veteran, also has 3+ years of experience working as an ambulance EMT in the city of Lynn, Massachusetts. And he has definately seen his share of stabbings and other life-threatening injuries as a Barnstable Police Officer. The combined effort of many, from Officer O’Melia and his fellow officers, to the Hyannis EMT’s, Cape Cod Hospital staff, Medflight helicopter crew members, and personnel at Boston Medical Center is the reason this young man is still alive today. As you can in hear in the attached HN Video, the male stabbing victim was described as being in his late 20s, according to radio chatter. He was intially transported to Cape Cod Hospital and then eventually airlifted to Boston Medical Center, where he was being treated for injuries described as “critical” on Saturday. Things initially did not look good for the young man, which prompted Barnstable and Massachusetts State Police detectives to tape off an area around the crime scene. The investigation closed down an entire block of Main Street in the East End for a period of time on Saturday. But according to police sources early Sunday morning, and again early Monday morning, the victim’s condition appears to have stabilized. Barnstable Police would be notified if the patient’s condition took a turn for the worse again and the last information has him as stable. So, in the meantime, no developing news on his condition is actually “good news” in this case. HN will provide updates if anything changes.
A number of arrests were made shortly after the knifing. The matter remains under investigation by the Barnstable Police Department with assistance by State Police Detectives assigned to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office. HN reached out Monday morning for more information on the investigation and am waiting to hear back from officials. HN will provide official updates as they become available.
The following HN Video covers the entire Saturday morning crime scene and investigation.
* All individuals on scene are presumed to be innocent unless charged with a crime and proven guilty in a Massachusetts Court of Law.
