HYANNIS – Several pole fires and downed wire incidents knocked out power to as many as 2842 Hyannis Eversource customers last evening and throughout the overnight. As you will see in the following HN Video, at around 10:00 p.m., police and firefighters responded to the area of Route 132 and the Cape Crossroads Condominiums after reports of a pole fire and a downed power line across the roadway. Downed wires caused a power outage along the Route 132 corridor and traffic needed to be shut down between the Airport Rotary and the intersection with Bearses Way. A short while later there were reports of power outages in the Main Street area, including surrounding downtown neighborhoods. Around 1:15 a.m., Eversource crews responded to Stevens Street, where since shortly before midnight, police and firefighters had the roadway blocked off due to another downed power line. A pole was reportedly seen smoldering… and according to an Eversource outage map, a number of customers in the Hyannis West End also lost power. Repairs were expected to be ongoing throughout the early morning hours, with power to the majority of customers expected to be restored sometime prior to 6:15 a.m.
NOTE: According to Cape Cod emergency radio traffic, other Cape towns experienced similar electrical issues throughout last evening…
