*** WATCH *** Man found snoozing at traffic light arrested for driving on drugs…
HYANNIS – Around midnight last evening, Barnstable Patrol Officers raced toward Yarmouth Road and Route 28 for a report of a driver asleep behind the wheel at the intersection. It was one of those extremely dangerous situations where every second mattered.
The first officers on scene encountered a male driver behind the wheel of a rented car stopped at the traffic light. As you will see in the following HN Video, officers were initially given false information regarding the driver’s true identity. Upon further investigation, officers learned the man’s driver’s license had been suspended. They also learned he had a history of drug related entries on his adult record.
The male was handcuffed and brought to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. He was later charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, according to sources. He was also expected to be charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, along with being in possession of a quantity of what appeared to be illicit drugs.
A member of the Barnstable Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to take photographs of evidence collected on scene. The investigation was ongoing at the time of this report and additional charges may follow…
According to radio transmissions, Barnstable Police had the same type of encounter with the same individual the night before. Additional details regarding that initial encounter were not immediately available.
The following HN Video includes HN bodycam and dashcam footage. It also includes police call audio and HN video of officers making contact with the suspect.
* All individuals are presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty in a Massachusetts Court of Law.
