INITIAL HN REPORT:
HYANNIS – [HN NOTE: This is very much a DEVELOPING investigation and story… probably one of the most wild stabbing scenes/investigations I’ve documented in a very long time…]
Here’s what HN knows so far:
Early this morning, around the time of the bars closing, maybe shortly prior, a patrolman got on the radio about a young man with a stab wound to the chest on the sidewalk in the area of Main Street and Old Colony Road, in the East End.
According to witnesses HN spoke with, the man had just approached them in obvious pain, asking for help.
HN arrived on scene moments after the first patrol officers and began documenting the scene. The man (possibly 28-years-old according to radio transmissions) was suffering from what was described as a deep penetrating stab wound. The first Barnstable Police Patrolmen on scene applied a plastic patch over the wound, which seemingly slowed the bleeding. At that point the victim was able to walk himself into a nearby ambulance despite officers asking him to remain seated.
While responding to the scene, a Barnstable Patrolman observed a man in a white hoodie fleeing the area. As you will see and hear in the HN Video, that man was later detained as a suspect in the case. Three other individuals, a woman and two males were also taken into custody, on charges ranging from interfering with a police investigation to warrants and protective custody.
As you will see in the HN Footage, the scene of the car stop where all four individuals were taken into custody was a volatile one, to say the least. Mutual aid was requested from the Yarmouth Police Department… and a couple of Massachusetts State Troopers also responded.
The woman that was taken into custody was not initially inside the suspect’s vehicle. She showed up on foot filming the police, which officers were perfectly fine with. It became an issue when she sat down inside the suspect vehicle and would not get out. At that point the suspect vehicle was being handled as a crime scene. She fought with officers and was arrested for interfering with a police investigation.
HN also learned that the victim was expected to eventually be airlifted to an off-Cape trauma center. HN shot a Medflight airlift from the airport in Hyannis, but whether that was the actual stabbing victim has not been officially confirmed… (but I can report that it was the only airlift from Hyannis this morning, as best as I can tell…)
The suspect vehicle was eventually towed back to police headquarters…
Sometime during the early morning hours, Main Street Hyannis was cordoned off and completely shut down between Old Colony Road and Ocean Street, where the stabbing was believed to have occurred. State Police and Barnstable Police Detectives began arriving on scene. The entire area was canvassed for evidence by patrol officers and detectives.
The stabbing victim’s current condition is unknown at the time of this report… the investigation is ongoing… check back for updates…
* All individuals on scene are presumed to be innocent unless charged with a crime and proven guilty in a Massachusetts Court of Law.
