*** WATCH *** TERRIFYING SCENE! YOUNG WOMAN RUN OVER AND BADLY HURT… BYSTANDERS RUSHED TO ASSIST… DRIVER REMAINED ON LOCATION…
HYANNIS – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, a young woman was badly hurt after being run over by a car in traffic last evening.
The vehicle vs. pedestrian accident happened on Center Street at the intersection with Main Street at around 9:00 p.m..
The young woman was still down in the roadway when HN first arrived on scene. Bystanders had rushed to assist, stopping traffic and with one man sitting down next to her on the pavement, monitoring her, providing comfort. The woman was able to communicate at one point. She was badly hurt but Medflight was not called for. She was eventually transported to Cape Cod Hospital in serious condition but was expected to survive her injuries. (Which is miracle according to those who witnessed the scene.)
The male driver remained on scene and was fully cooperative with police. He could be heard saying that he was traveling through a green light… police transported him back to headquarters to provide an official statement.
The woman was believed to have been struck in or near to a crosswalk. Officers interviewed witnesses who remained on scene to assist. There was no accident reconstruction unit called to the scene (which is a positive sign in this case…)
The man who sat down in the roadway to assist and comfort the woman is a college baseball coach in town with another coach for scouting purposes. (HN will like to, once again, thank all bystanders who rushed to this young woman’s assistance! I’m sure your efforts definitely helped comfort her at the very least…)
The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident… and the following HN Video highlights a terrifying scene that left a pedestrian badly hurt.
