MANHUNT: Police scrambled as wallet thief fled toward homeless camps… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS — Police are looking for a man who reached in and stole a man’s wallet from inside his truck early yesterday evening.
At about 6:00PM, BPD responded to 355 Yarmouth Road to speak with the victim who got a good look at the man who stole his wallet and escaped by running along the train tracks. Squad cars and unmarked units saturated the areas east and west of the tracks…
A police K-9 unit quickly hit the ground tracking in an area that is inundated with homeless camps. The K-9 unit came upon a camp and an individual closely fitting the suspect’s description. (The individual cooperated with police, mentioning to HN that he was in the middle of cooking dinner at his campsite and that he had no idea what was going on…) Police drove the homeless man back to the scene of the crime and the victim was quickly able to rule him out.
The K-9 unit and patrols continued the search, discovering homeless camps in areas on both sides of the tracks. They also learned of some new camps in the vicinity of the northeast corner of the airport.
The stolen wallet was recovered after it had been discarded along the train tracks, but police are still searching for the suspect. They have a good description, along with a witness who can identify him.
The following video picks up the search right from the beginning. It shows patrol cars responding and searching. It also shows officers ruling out the homeless individual who fit the suspect’s description.

DISTURBANCE: 82-year-old woman hauled in for being drunk… didn’t go peacefully…
WEST HYANNISPORT — A couple of Barnstable Police squad cars were dispatched to some type of a disturbance at a residence involving an 82-year-old woman Monday evening.
It was an unfimiliar address and officers weren’t sure what to expect.
(How much of a disturbance could an elderly woman possibly create? Apparently quite a bit…)
Officers patiently tried reasoning with the woman. Hauling her in was the very last thing anyone wanted to do…
She originally told police she had just one drink. A source told HN she may have been drinking more than one serving of sherry, along with some vodka…
Exhausting all other options, officers decided to take the woman into protective custody for her own good.
She was handcuffed, and officers carefully guided her toward a patrol car as she dug in and resisted.
Once she was secured in the back seat of a cruiser, one officer in his mid-twenties kept a careful constant watch on her, as his partner went inside the residence to notify her family that they were taking to her Barnstable Police Headquarters.
Despite her age, she was fiesty and unruly. She actually tried to kick one of the officers at least once… and reportedly was not very pleasant in the booking area as well.
HN was there and began to document the scene when the woman became uncooperative and violent. Both police officers were very professional and patient. Due to the nature of the call and age of the female, the video and images will not be published…
The family of the woman are in the process of finding her help.
HN NOTE: Alcoholism and addiction effects individuals at any age, and it is never too late for anyone to seek help and find sobriety.

HN TIP: Please have a safe and enjoyable Wednesday. We’re all in this congested HyTown traffic situation together, so don’t forget to be extra nice to one another. Deep breaths work better than crazy hand gestures. Practicing patience won’t make you any later, and you’ll feel a hell of a lot better when you finally arrive 😉
