Mashpee Woman Faces OUI Charges After Crash Knocks Out Power in Osterville

OSTERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS — A 29-year-old Mashpee woman has been charged with operating under the influence after a single-vehicle crash that snapped a utility pole and caused a power outage affecting about 100 residences in Osterville early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. on December 13, 2025, at the intersection of South County Road and Jubilation Way. Police and firefighters responded to reports of the crash and found the driver, identified as Katherine Wheelden, outside the vehicle. She was the sole occupant and was evaluated by a Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills ambulance crew but did not require hospital transport.
The crash damaged a transformer-bearing utility pole, leaving it dangling above the roadway and rendering the area impassable to traffic. South County Road was shut down during the incident, and an Eversource crew arrived to assess and repair the damage. Power was expected to be restored to the affected homes by around 10:00 a.m. this morning – Saturday, 12/13/25.
Wheelden faces charges of operating under the influence and a marked lanes violation. The investigation is ongoing.
