Police investigating the break-in of neighboring homes… and other news briefs…
HYANNIS – Last night, police responded to a home in the area of Walnut Street for a recent break-in only to discover that the house next door had also been broken into.
In at least one home it looks like the suspect had time to go through just about every room. Police were still trying to contact the owner to determine what exactly had been taken.
A police K-9 was called in to search the area for clues.
A crime scene investigator was also summoned to take photos of the damage to entry points, as well as process other evidence.
It’s unsure whether this is the beginning of neighborhood crime spree, but police were also in the same area for a recent break-in to a motor vehicle within the last week.
Securing and lighting outside areas around the home, along with reaching out and communicating with neighbors are two effective ways to become vigilant and fight back.
The public is also urged to report any and all suspicious activity to the Barnstable Police Patrol Division. For non-emergency matters, you may contact a police officer at 508-775-0387, extension 8.

Man ran right out of his sneaker…
HYANNIS – Police rushed to the Hess station at the intersection of Route 28 and Bearses way after a Hispanic male ran into the convenience store and nearly collapsed from exhaustion. The young man and resident of a local neighborhood had been running away from, according to him, a group of black males who he felt were about to ambush and beat him. The man was anxious and sweating profusely. He admitted to having just consumed 5 or 6 beers. But when questioned about smoking or ingesting other drugs, he said that he had not.
Police gave the man a ride home where they met his wife. The wife was not happy with the man and explained her husband had been also been smoking marijuana when he became paranoid, possibly seeing things, before running out onto the street and away from their home.
A officer left the man with his wife for safe keeping.

In this case, however, the man was not deceased, just napping, and rescue assisted him back up into his wheelchair.
