SANDWICH – Jean Gilrein was suddenly awakened by Murphy the Aussiedoodle barking incessantly. She went to investigate and with the help of Murphy’s barking she eventually noticed what the fuss was all about – the neighbor’s house was on fire! She then immediately called 911.

At about 2:30 a.m., multiple crews responded to 14 Bourne Ave for what turned into a three alarm structure fire. Firefighters were still on scene battling the blaze at the time of this report (about 5:30 a.m.)…

It’s unknown if the residence was occupied at the time of the fire… [UPDATE: At this time the residence is believed to have been unoccupied, sources say…]

The state fire marshal was asked to respond to the scene.

Firefighters are expected to be on scene for the remainder of the overnight.
