Shell at Sagamore Bridge robbed at gunpoint minutes after a trooper left store… [VIDEO]
SAGAMORE BEACH – A shook up store clerk told HN he never expected he would ever be robbed because the police are always around his store, either gassing up their cruisers or using the restrooms…
… in fact, a state trooper had just left about 15 minutes prior to the robbery, he told HN.
At about 9:50PM last evening (Tuesday), police in the area were alerted there had just been an armed robbery at the Shell gas station and Food Mart at 1 Canal Road, Sagamore Beach, Bourne (located just over the Sagamore Bridge on the mainland side).
According to sources, a black handgun had been shown. The suspect was initially described as a white male, about 6’1”, approximately 180 to 190 lbs., with a motorcycle helmet, and backpack. The suspect is believed to have fled the area in a loud black vehicle, possibly in the direction of Plymouth.
The clerk told HN he had just started work and was all alone when he decided to check next week’s work schedule. That’s when he heard the door open. Next, he was startled when he suddenly looked up and came face to face with a man pointing a gun at him.
The clerk quickly decided to cooperate and began handing over change and bills… and that’s when the robber yelled “JUST THE BILLS!”
Since he had just arrived for his shift and had only had a couple of customers, he estimates the robber made off with about $140 from his drawer. The robber also took cash from the second register, which should have only had about $100 at the time. So the robber was believed to have only made off with a total of $240, according to the hold up victim.
“I thought he was going to kill me,” the clerk told HN.
The clerk also said he had been a clerk there for about 10 years and he has never experienced anything like last night’s robbery.
Because of the frequency of cops coming and going, the clerk believes the robber may have been casing the store for a period of time.
The robber took off as soon as he had the money, somehow smashing the store’s glass door on his way out, either by kicking it open or catching it with his backpack, the clerk told HN.
The clerk said he saw the handgun pointing down at him and described it as being long with a skinny handle. He went on to admit he didn’t know anything about guns or how to identify them, but said the gun was “black and scary.”
The robbery victim was visibly shaken and when his manager arrived he was given the remainder of the evening off.
The clerk told HN he was going home to have some bourbon to calm his nerves.
