INITIAL HN REPORT:
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – A quiet Labor Day in a Hyannis family neighborhood was shattered last night when a stabbing incident unfolded near the Cape Cod Synagogue on Winter Street. At approximately 9:23 p.m., Barnstable Police and Hyannis Fire Department responders raced to the scene after a report that a man had just been stabbed. The violent encounter, which police believe occurred in front of (or near to) the synagogue, had authorities busy piecing together a complex case involving claims of self-defense.
According to initial radio traffic, the suspect, described as a black male wearing a black sweatshirt, fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim, whose injuries were not considered life-threatening, was able to walk to the ambulance before being transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment.
The incident drew a swift response from law enforcement, with patrol officers and detectives surrounding a nearby apartment building where they initially believed the suspect might be hiding.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities learned the alleged suspect and victim were known to each other, adding layers of complexity to the case. Sources close to the investigation report that both individuals are claiming self-defense, alleging the stabbing stemmed from some type of heated altercation. Later last evening, the suspect turned himself in to Barnstable Police and was transported to headquarters to provide his account of the incident.
Police are now working to unravel the truth behind the bloodshed. Investigators are optimistic that a critical piece of evidence will clarify the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
The scene captured in the following exclusive Hyannis News video footage underscores the gravity of the moment, showing an urgent police and fire department response.
