SWAT called to help end three hour standoff…
HYANNIS – Shortly after 9am, patrol officers responded to a residence to evaluate a male who reportedly made suicidal threats on his Facebook page.
A man in his 20s was barricaded inside his bedroom and would not cooperate with police. Based on previously made threats, he was believed to be armed with a handgun.
A computer check revealed another resident with a gun permit had registered guns at the property. It’s uncertain whether the suicidal male had access to the registered guns, but because of comments made, police were not taking any chances.
About 8 or 9 patrol units lined the street when the SWAT team commander arrived about halfway through the standoff.
At about 11:10am, SWAT members entered the residence with shields, breaching tools, lethal and nonlethal weapons…
A Hyannis Rescue unit also staged nearby the entire time, waiting for the scene to be safely secured.
At 12:16pm, a supervisor radioed that the subject had been secured.
The standoff ended without injuries.
The distraught male was walked out to an ambulance and transported to CCH, where police and hospital security had their hands full trying to get him to calm down.
A police photographer documented the scene.
A Barnstable Police Detective Sergeant arrived to investigate. It’s uncertain whether or not police are investigating anything beyond the incident with the barricaded man…
A source indicated the male may have been under influence of illicit narcotics…
Additional details are unavailable at this time.
