HN PHOTOS: Police respond to “overdose” inside Hyannis restaurant booth… and the nearest available ambulance had to travel from Yarmouth…
HYANNIS – Multiple Barnstable Police Officers responded to a report of an “overdose” inside of a Hyannis restaurant this evening. The first officers on scene encountered a male patient being held up by a woman seated inside a booth located in the restaurant’s main dining area.
Hyannis Rescue had already been having a very busy evening, which included responding to another separate report of a person overdosing inside of a Hyannis residence. At the time of the restaurant overdose call, there were no available Hyannis Rescue ambulances and dispatchers had to reach out other fire departments. After checking with Barnstable F.D. and having no luck, dispatchers were finally able locate an available ambulance at the Yarmouth Fire Department…
Meanwhile, police officers were inside the restaurant working to revive the unconscious patient. It took several doses of Narcan to finally bring the patient around. But even though police officers and a nearby Barnstable Firefighter were able to successfully revive the young male, they still needed an ambulance to transport him to the hospital…
While waiting for the ambulance to arrive all the way from the Town of Yarmouth, a number of restaurant patrons entered and exited (some carrying take out bags) as officers stood by with the patient in the middle of the dining room.
A Yarmouth F.D. ambulance finally arrived on scene and the patient was able to walk outside to meet them. The patient was then transported to Cape Cod Hospital for ongoing care and treatment.
