*** WATCH *** EXTREMELY UPSETTING SCENE FOR TWO FAMILIES: TWO WOMEN BITTEN, ONE DOG IN CUSTODY, ANOTHER DOG INJURED…
HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – Two women were bitten by a dog and transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening last evening – Thursday, June 23, 2022.
Barnstable Police and Hyannis Rescue responded to the corner of Washington Ave and Birch Street for a disturbance involving possible dog bites. One woman was down on the street bleeding when HN arrived on scene shortly before 8:00 p.m… A second woman was also injured, the front of her sweatpants covered with blood. Both women were responsive and alert. Both women were treated on scene for what appeared to be lacerations consistent with dog bites. And both women were transported to the Cape Cod Hospital emergency room for further care.
As HN arrived on scene, the dog believed to be responsible for the bites was detained inside a fenced in yard on Washington Ave. The dog reportedly belonged to a family that lives about a block away on Birch Street. A Barnstable Animal Control officer, with the assistance of police officers, took a dog into custody. The dog was transported from the scene in the custody of Barnstable Animal Control.
A second dog was apparently injured during the disturbance and carried out the address on Washington Ave to reportedly be taken to a veterinarian for treatment. The dog was conscious and alert… and its injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
It was an extremely emotional scene, with members of two families understandably worried and upset about both bite victims and their beloved pets.
