*** WATCH *** THREE SQUID FISHERMEN RESCUED AFTER BOAT CAPSIZES OFF SQUAW ISLAND
HYANNIS PORT, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – At around 10:00 p.m. Monday evening, police and firefighters rushed to the area of Squaw Island Road for a report that three squid fishermen were in the water (at least 2 without life jackets, according to radio transmissions) after their boat capsized. The Hyannis Fire Department launched a rescue boat. The Barnstable Police Department launched their patrol boat. The Coast Guard was also alerted. As you will see in the following video, a Good Samaritan boat with other squid fishermen came to assist the three souls who were all reportedly in the water at one point. The Good Samaritans assisted the three soaking wet fishermen onto their boat before transferring them onto the Hyannis Fire Department rescue vessel. (The following HN video begins with actual cellphone footage that shows the men being assisted aboard the Good Samaritan Vessel… courtesy of Philip Tran, one of the rescuers.) The HN video footage then shows the fire department command post on Squaw Island Road. The final shots show the fire department rescue boat arriving back at the Cape Cod Hospital boat ramp… with the three survivors who were able to step onto the dock and walk up to awaiting ambulances on their own. All three men were evaluated for possible hypothermia and eventually released. At the time of this report, there was no word on whether the overturned squid boat had been towed back to shore yet…
The following HN Video (with cellphone footage from Philip Tran) highlights the entire rescue.
