*** WILD HN VIDEO *** DRIVER FLEES AFTER CRASH KNOCKS OUT POWER, SETS HOUSE ON FIRE…
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at around 9:13 p.m. last evening, an out-of-control Dodge Charger slammed into a parked vehicle in the densely populated Spring Street neighborhood. An explosive electrical flash was witnessed in the night sky above Hyannis from miles away. Live wires were left dangling over the street as a fire suddenly broke out inside a home at 46 Spring Street. The entire street lost power and needed to be completely shut down. Families poured from darkened homes onto the street, alarmed at what they were actually witnessing. Equally taken aback, police and firefighters had their hands full preventing curious onlookers from coming in contact with the live wires.
The driver of the charger fled the scene on foot. Witnesses reported seeing one, possibly two occupants flee the scene. The crash caused extensive damage to a parked vehicle. Wiring to several houses was also damaged. The extent of the damage caused by a fire inside one of the homes remains uncertain… A general power outage left families in the dark for well over two hours. A couple of homes remained without electricity even after power was restored to the rest of the neighborhood.
Police reportedly tracked down a young man who admits to being an occupant of the vehicle but not the driver. Officials are still uncertain what to believe at this point… and the investigation is very active and ongoing. Surveillance video in the area may come into play as the investigation unfolds.
Miraculously, there were no serious injuries reported.
