Initial HN Coverage:
MASHPEE – A woman was in “priority one” condition after she was struck by a full-size sedan earlier this evening on Route 28 near the Mashpee/Barnstable town line…
… it was an upsetting scene for witnesses.
First responders found the victim down in the middle of Route 28 at about 8:30 PM. She was immediately referred to being in serious priority one condition. A decision was made to transport the victim to Cape Cod Hospital after it was learned Medflight helicopters were unable to respond due to weather in the region.
Police immediately shut down an entire stretch of Route 28 from Route 130 to Old Mill Road.
Mashpee and Cotuit firefighters both responded to the scene.
According to radio traffic, there was some initial confusion as to which police department held jurisdiction because of the proximity of the crash scene to the town line. It was first believed to be Mashpee, then it was believed to be in Barnstable… but sources on scene finally confirmed that it ended up being Mashpee’s investigation after all.
An accident reconstruction expert was herd responding to the scene.
The driver of the sedan was evaluated by rescue but did not need to be transported.
