UPDATE – 6/10/2022 – Police sources have informed HN that the John Deer Gator was stolen from the Hyannis Harbor Hawks field… and that the suspect had allegedly recently maliciously pulled a fire alarm pull station at the nearby residence where he lives. Officials are looking into getting the man the help he needs…
YARMOUTH – Police are trying to figure out where a man got an expensive John Deer Gator after they stopped him driving it down Route 28 without any lights on around 3:00 a.m. this morning.
The call of concern came in from a passing taxi driver.
As the investigation unfolded, officers learned the man had a troubled past, with a number of entries on his record. They also learned he was likely suffering from some kind of ongoing mental health issue. A guardian of the man informed officers that he is prone to extreme violence and could become combative, according to radio transmissions.
The man was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in a Yarmouth FD ambulance for further evaluation.
At the time of this report, officers were still trying to figure out where the man got the John Deer that apparently did not belong to him.
A newspaper delivery person stopped by the scene and expressed his concern about earlier seeing the man driving the Gator down Route 28 without any lights on. It was hazardous, according to him. He was the second person to report his concerns regarding the suspicious Gator ride…
The Gator was towed back to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and the investigation into where it came from, where it was going and who it belongs to is active and ongoing.
