UPDATE — 9/20/2015, 12:15PM — Latest details from the office of District Attorney Michael O’Keefe:
Cape & Island’s District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Chief Paul MacDonald, Barnstable Police, announced today that the female body found at the rest area on Route 6 has been identified as Christine Ferreira (d.o.b. 4-23-87) of Hyannis.
We are awaiting further information from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner but the autopsy revealed the deceased died from multiple stabbing injuries and multiple gunshot wounds. The case remains under active investigation by State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and Barnstable Police.

BARNSTABLE – DEVELOPING – A woman’s dead body and shell casings were discovered at the rest area between Exits 6 and 7, on the eastbound side of Route 6 early this morning.
A motorist discovered the gruesome scene and called police. Police arrived at the scene shortly after 4:00AM.
The deceased female had extensive head and body wounds caused by multiple gunshots, sources say.
Early sources tell HN that investigators have identified the body… and that the female is from the Mid-Cape area, age 28, with ties to Yarmouth and Barnstable… Numerous friends are expressing their shock over the news and leaving “Rest in Peace” messages on her facebook page… Recent tweets to friends talk about her wanting good people in her life… according to one tweet, she describes her problems with “cold heartless negative” people currently in her life… (This is still early info and has not been been officially confirmed by investigators… HN cannot release the murder victim’s name at this time…)
The case is being investigated by the Barnstable Police, along with Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorneys’ Office.
This is a very active investigation, with local police and detectives out gathering details and chasing down leads…
