Alert Citizens Rescue South Yarmouth Woman from Drowning
The following is the actual YPD press statement:
On Sunday, August 7, 2016 at approximately 6:40 PM Yarmouth Police Officers and Fire Fighters responded Wings Grove Beach on Indian Memorial Drive in South Yarmouth for a reported drowning. First Responders arrived and found a 29-year-old female lying on her side on the beach who had just been pulled out of nearly 6 feet of water by a group of citizens who had worked together to find the woman, recover her from the water, and provide emergency life-saving CPR.
The woman, who had apparently consumed a large amount of alcoholic beverages, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by members of the Yarmouth Fire Department where she was treated by Emergency Department personnel. She has been subsequently transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and is critical condition.
Investigation has revealed that the woman was at the beach with her two young children as well as their father. While the father was fishing with the children nearby, the woman went underwater and was saved by the quick actions of a group of citizens nearby.
Yarmouth Police have notified the Department of Children and Families for further review and will be honoring all of the rescuers with a Yarmouth Police Department Citizen Lifesaving Award at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters at 4PM on Wednesday, August 10, 2016.
