WEST YARMOUTH, Massachusetts – A pedestrian was badly injured when struck by a vehicle on Route 28 last evening. At around 9:00 p.m., Yarmouth police and firefighters rushed to the area of Luke’s Liquors and the Cape Cod Inflatable Park for a report of a pedestrian in priority one condition, down in the roadway. The first police officer on scene requested additional cruisers to assist with traffic. In the following audio, the first patrol officer can be heard advising dispatch that there were “numerous medics from out-of-state” already on scene. Route 28 traffic needed to be completely closed down between West Yarmouth Road and Higgins Crowell Road while first responders worked the scene. The road was closed for approximately half an hour.

The driver remained on scene during the investigation. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver was eventually picked up by a taxicab for a ride to Falmouth, according to radio transmissions.

The wait for a Medflight helicopter was approximately 40 minutes and a decision was made to transport the patient to Cape Cod Hospital instead. At the time of this report, and according to sources, the patient was expected to survive her injuries.

A member of the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to take photographs. Accident reconstruction personal were not requested to the scene, according to sources.

The cause of the car vs. pedestrian crash is being investigated by the Yarmouth Police Department patrol division.
