UPDATE FROM THE MASS DEPARTMENT OF FIRE SERVICES: Barnstable House Fire Deliberately Set…
BARNSTABLE — State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey, Barnstable Fire Chief Francis M. Pulsifer, and Barnstable Police Chief Matthew K. Sonnabend said yesterday’s 3-alarm fire in the single-family home at 84 Allyn Lane in Barnstable was intentionally-set. Investigators know who is responsible for setting the fire and where they are. The public is not at risk.
The fire was reported at 1:28 p.m. on October 20, 2019. The vacation home is a total loss and damages are estimated at $520,000. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire and no one was injured. Chief Pulsifer said, “The fire was burning for quite some time before it was reported. As a result, it got a good head start on us.”
The Barnstable Fire Department, the Barnstable Police Department and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal jointly investigated this fire. The investigation is ongoing.

INITIAL HN REPORT:
BARNSTABLE – As you will see in the following Raw HN Videos, at about 1:28 p.m., first responders rushed to a home on Allyn Lane for a 75% involved house fire.
Because of the intensity of the flames, crews immediately began an exterior defensive attack.
Flames tore through the entire residence before being brought under control. According to Barnstable Fire Chief Frank Pulsifer (see Raw HN Video 2), the residence appears to be a total loss.
There were no occupants inside the home at the time of fire and Chief Pulsifer reports that no firefighters were injured battling the blaze.
Witnesses on scene report that a man was taken into custody by police, and that the blue car with NH plates in video 1 possibly belonged to the man, but details as to why he was taken into custody have not yet been officially released or confirmed… [DEVELOPING]
The State Fire Marshal and an arson investigator from the Barnstable Police Department were called to the scene to investigate… [DEVELOPING]
