*** WATCH *** Driver arrested for OUI Drugs after vehicle flies off highway into trees…
BARNSTABLE – A driver is under arrest after his vehicle flew off Route 6 westbound into a bunch of trees just prior to the old Exit 6 early this morning. The call came in around 12:30 a.m., causing Massachusetts State Troopers, Barnstable Firefighters, and Barnstable Police squad cars to scramble toward the highway. The first trooper on scene told the other responding units that there were no apparent injuries. Barnstable Rescue arrived on scene to evaluate the driver/sole occupant of the Toyota Camry as a precaution, collecting a refusal for further medical care. Fortunately, the driver and no other persons were injured during the crash. A state trooper continued to investigate, eventually radioing to dispatched, “I’ll have that operator in custody, OUI Drugs…”
HN NOTES REGARDING THE CHARGE OF “OUI DRUGS” : In the state of Massachusetts it is against the law to operate a vehicle under the influence of drugs. HN notes what should be perfectly obvious to everyone here because impaired driving on Cape Cod remains a serious ongoing problem, all too often resulting in people being seriously hurt or killed… effecting too many, including loved ones (even those not on scene)… and it often seems some people are not getting the so called “memo.” Drunk and/or drugged driving laws are mainly in place to protect drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and their loved ones (including those not on scene) from serious trauma or death. Please note, a person can be charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs if they are suspected of driving and being under the influence of ANY drug, including prescription drugs, marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, etc.. The arrest process for OUI Drugs, including its penalties and very unpleasant consequences, are similar to the process of being arrested for driving drunk on alcohol. In short, it’s a very serious crime to be accused of, which can result in the loss of license and even jail time. Please do not drive impaired! It’s not worth it… ever! And it’s also a very tough lesson to learn the hard way. Anyone who has ever suddenly lost a child, friend, classmate, family member, or any loved one, unfortunately knows the unspeakable pain and heartbreak caused by that “tough lesson” all too well.
* All individuals arrested on the suspicion of OUI Drugs are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
