*** WATCH *** Officials investigating fire at vacant restaurant…
BARNSTABLE – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, police and fire officials are investigating a fire that happened at a vacant restaurant building inside the Festival Plaza last evening.
At around 10:30 p.m., crews responded to 1070 Iyannough Rd and discovered a fire had activated the sprinkler system inside what used to be the El Rodeo Mexican Restaurant, which has been vacant for probably over a year now, according to Chief Francis M. Pulsifer of the Barnstable Fire Department.
The fire appears to have started in a flower box before extending into the building. A sprinkler apparently knocked down the brunt of the fire from the inside and firefighters needed to tear into the outer wall of the building to hose down the rest.
There was a broken window and mention of a suspicious male observed in the area as crews arrived on scene.
A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit arrived to take photos of the scene.
The fire remains under investigation. No further details were available at the time of this report. The following HN Video highlights the entire scene, including some of the radio communications between firefighters and police…
